Minority Fellowship Program (MFP) Is Seeking Mentors
|
The National Board for Certified Counselors Minority Fellowship Program for Addictions Counselors (NBCC MFP-AC) awards fellowships to Master’s degree-level addiction counseling students to ensure that the behavioral health needs of all Americans are met, regardless of language or culture, thereby reducing health disparities and improving overall community health and well-being.
NAADAC is looking for addiction professionals who are interested in mentoring these Master’s level addiction counselor students. Mentors provide a monthly check-in call or email to encourage, answer questions, and provide guidance as the fellow completes his or her schooling and internship.

June Is Pride Month
|
Research tells us that members of the LGBTQ+ community are at greater risk for substance use and mental health issues than the rest of the population. In honor of Pride Month, NAADAC welcomes you to learn more about treating and supporting those suffering from substance use disorders within the LGBTQ+ community with the below resources.
NAADAC offers two free on-demand webinars regarding treating members of the LGBTQ+ community. Providing Culturally Competent and Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, and Transgender Affirmative Care, presented by Philip T. McCabe, CSW, CAS, CDVC, DRCC, and Influences on Addiction and Mental Health in the LGBT Population, presented by Mary Sue Green, PhD, LMFT, each provide valuable information for practitioners providing services to individuals identifying as members of the LGBTQ+ community.
The NAADAC 2019 Annual Conference in Orlando, FL on September 28 - October 3, 2019, will feature a breakout session titled Substance Use Disorder: Military Veterans and LGBTQ Populations presented by Ami Crowley, EdD, ACS, ICADC, MCAP, Justina Wong, BA, and John "JJ" Jackson, BA. This presentation will review how cultural humility affects substance use disorder for individuals identifying as LGBTQ+ military veterans. Register to attend the Annual Conference today!

The 2019 Nebraska Trainingwill take place on June 28, 2019, at Bellevue University - Lozier Center in Omaha, Nebraska.
