Lace up your running shoes for the 4th Annual YMDC 5K on April 6, 2019 at Sequoyah Hills Park. This race benefits MDC's Youth Metro Drug Coalition's scholarship program and their activities throughout the school year.
Youth Metro Drug Coalition consists of sophomore, junior and senior high school students across Knox County high schools who have a personal connection to addiction or a passion for substance abuse prevention.

SBIRT Training: April 12
On April 12, Metro Drug Coalition will be hosting an SBIRT Training. This training will equip providers, nurse practitioners, nurses, residents and office managers to: understand the disease process of addiction, recognize the risk factors and causes of Neonatal Abstinence Syndrome, understand the process of SBIRT (an evidence-based screening tool) to assess risk for substance abuse in patients, and learn ways to implement and administer brief interventions. NAADAC is pleased to congratulate Dr. Jack Stein on his appointment as National Institute on Drug Abuse's (NIDA) Chief of Staff. This is a newly created position to support and assist the Director of NIDA with coordination and strategic planning of key institute initiatives.

Dr. Stein has been a great friend to NAADAC over the years. He has been a featured presenter at many NAADAC conferences and contributes to NAADAC’s magazine, Advances in Addiction & Recovery, with a quarterly column that addresses addiction treatment trends and news.

Substance Use Prevention: A Resource Guide for School Staff

On Friday, March 22, the Office of National Drug Control Policy (ONDCP) released the Substance Use Prevention: A Resource Guide for School Staff. The resource guide provides an overview of federal resources that educators can use to identify and address student drug use, develop lesson plans on the current addiction crisis, and connect students to resources that can reduce risky behavior.

This guide is a combined effort of ONDCP, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration (SAMHSA), the U.S. Department of Health & Human Services (HHS), and the U.S. Department of Education and presents teachers, principals, and other school staff with a comprehensive approach to reducing drug use.
