Millions of people all over the United States abuse drugs and alcohol, and thousands upon thousands don’t make it through the end of the year, with overdoses being the most common drug-related death. With an estimated 15 million people abusing drugs everyday, its difficult to imagine what that could do to the workforce, and some specific industries
Recovering from drug addiction is not easy. People who don’t go through it themselves often wonder why addicts find it so difficult to control their urge and impulse to use drugs. For an outsider, walking away from an addiction and choosing to follow a more straight and narrow path may seem simple. But it’s a much more complicated process than that.
Former addict, currently in recovery, sat down in a deep and personal interview with AZ Family. We’ve written blogs and pieces discussing the dangers of fentanyl, and his testimony of the truly horrifying dangers only emphasizes what we at Scottsdale Recovery Center have learned and believe. In the last 6 months, we’ve had a 40% increase in clients seeking help to overcome their fentanyl addiction.
Going for a drink after work is a cultural norm in workspaces all over the world, and one of the many things to which anyone from any country can relate. With alcohol, of course, there is the potential for abuse, as alcohol is the most-abused drug in the world, and cultural norms surrounding alcohol are shifting to include a change in the way that alcohol is consumed.
When I first got sober, almost twelve years ago, I was told at AA that I had to find a sponsor. This was not negotiable.
I was in a tender state of mind. Barely able to speak at AA meetings – let alone stop crying long enough to do so. I felt overwhelmed and intimidated by this “idea” of finding a sponsor. To make matters worse, every person I met in the AA meeting rooms asked me if I had found one yet. I was feeling the pressure.
