JHM Bargain Centers ➡ King's Home Thrift

King's Home president Lew Burdette (center) and Mission executive director Tony Cooper (right) talk about the transfer outside of the Eastwood location Friday morning.
The Mission Possible Bargain Centers of the Jimmie Hale Mission officially became King’s Home Thrift Better Stores Friday morning. The two Birmingham-based charities teamed up to better serve the homeless and hurting populations they serve.

“We opened our first Mission Possible Bargain Center in May of 2000,” said Mission executive director Tony Cooper. “For nearly 19 years they have been part of our ministries and have served us well. Now we are excited to transfer management to King’s Home ministries. We are looking forward to seeing how God is going to use these thrift stores to bless King’s Home and benefit thrift store shoppers.”
Tony Cooper discusses how the acquisition is mutually beneficial.
Until last year, Kings’ Home benefited from a partnership with America’s Thrift Store. That contract ended around the same time the Mission began exploring a change in its enterprise division and the two non-profits began talks about how this turn of events could become something mutually beneficial.

The Mission will continue to need and accept in-kind donations such as clothes, toiletries, paper products, toys, food, and other items. These contributions can be dropped off at the Shepura Men’s Center or Jessie’s Place for women and children in town. Larger items, like furniture, can be donated to The Better Stores.
Lew Burdette talks about how the venture into thrift stores will benefit those it serves.
“This opportunity came about at a time when King’s Home was prayerfully seeking wisdom on the next steps for the Better Bin collection effort,” said president Lew Burdette. “Both ministries are in awe of how the Lord has written this story.”

The acquisition included all three Bargain Center facilities located in Eastwood, Pinson, and Hanceville. Shoppers and those simply dropping off donations will experience a seamless transition and will be welcomed by the same friendly staff they’ve always encountered. King’s Home will also continue the Corners of Your Field initiative, a benevolence program based on Leviticus 19:9-10.
