Armando’s Story

Even at 79 years old, Armando wakes up every day and wants to work. “As long as I have two good hands, I want to put them to work.” However, after his wife’s passing in 2019, Armando became homeless at the age of 77 with nowhere to go.

That’s when he found the Mission. Motivated by his desire to work, he volunteers each morning to pick up litter on 13th and Pearl Streets and serves in the kitchen. He’s also been able to grow in his faith while living at the Mission - “When I first got to the Mission, Eddie kept inviting me to church. I kept telling him, no, but he kept inviting me. Eventually, I went to church with him, and I found God there. I have a strong relationship with God now.”

Now, Armando is one of three residents in our new SENIOR LEVEL permanent housing program that works to prevent homelessness for vulnerable seniors by ensuring they always have a permanent place to call home.

Thanksgiving

This Thanksgiving, we’re proud to announce that our shelter will be open and providing Thanksgiving meals for the community. Meals will be available to anyone in need, no questions asked.

Building Updates

We’re excited to share that we have had a few recent updates to our facilities that will allow us to better serve our community:

Thank you to our volunteer Marianne for spearheading the fundraising effort that raised $8,000 for a new warehouse heater for our facility!
Additionally, we’re upgrading our garden with a hydroponic garden in our dining room. It will use 20% less energy and produce up to 80% more food!
