Students Give Up Vapes...

MARCH 20, 2020
STUDENTS GIVE UP VAPES but the number of USERS STEADILY RISE
Hi,

Michael DeLeon here. Founder of Steered Straight Non-Profit.

I wanted to personally reach out and let you know that our organization is thinking about you and your family during this time of global pandemic and rising fear.

I want to take this opportunity to inform you about the vaping epidemic happening before our eyes but also the bigger issue at hand- the device itself.

Over the past 3 years I have been collecting vaporizers at the end of each of assembly. Educators allow me to ask students to hand in their vapes without penalty. It amazes me the courage and willingness students show when they unreluctantly turn in their vapes/e-cigarettes. All I do is simply ask... They make the choice. Some may think that is a temporary act of sacrifice, however, it's the first step towards recovery and long-term prevention.
Vaping and Other Substance Abuse Isn't Getting Better It's Getting Worse | Michael DeLeon
No better teacher than experience.
Here is what I have witnessed: 10% of those vapes tested positive for marijuana in 2018, 20% tested positive in 2019, and so far in 2020 over a third have test positive (and the year just began). This is awfully frighting because these devices in the coming years will be the carrier of almost ALL DRUGS!
VAPING
Just as the tobacco industry was declining and things started to look up for the general public and down for the tobacco industry- they got creative. 'They' being tycoons within the tobacco industry. A device that requires no lighter, no matches, and almost no public restrictions was created and originally designed in a USB disguise, it could be plugged into a computer to be charged.

It's no secret that teenage kids have always been and will always be the gazelle running from the lion in the tobacco industry.

If you're a vaper (a person who vapes), and you think your vaping only nicotine you're grossly mistaking. Most e-cigarettes that are marketed as nicotine actually contain "nicotine salts". Nicotine salts are "raw nicotine, which more closely resembles the natural structure of nicotine from the plant itself., It's not freebase or processed, it's raw, and it's up to 3-times more potent and 3-times more addictive than processed nicotine. It's the "crack-cocaine" of nicotine.

To a certain extent the e-liquid that goes into a vape may mostly contain nicotine, nicotine salts and increasingly, THC; however, when inhaled, the chemicals change from being heated to more than 200 degrees Fahrenheit as one vapes. When it goes into the respiratory system the heated inhaled chemicals can crystalize in the lungs or even worse, cause long-term lung membrane damage. It can cause Respiratory Disease, collapsed lungs and even death.

Steered Straight is committed to educating as many students, parents, educators, health professionals, and any person who has an open ear to listen, about the dangers of vaping, the stunning facts, and the lasting effects.
