Description: Problem gambling is linked to many individual, public health, and social problems, including depression, suicide, significant debt, bankruptcy, family conflict, domestic violence, neglect and maltreatment of children and criminal offenses. As with any addiction, treatment and early intervention utilizing various approaches can be very effective. This workshop will provide an overview and analysis of sports gambling expansion, emerging trends in the sports gambling market, the behavioral, emotional and psychological warning signs, and the increasing need for prevention, treatment, and recovery resources to be made available for those seeking assistance.

Presenter: Daniel Trolaro, MS

Daniel Trolaro, MS, is the Assistant Executive Director for 800-GAMBLER in New Jersey. He has spoken at dozens of events around the state and country about the “Dis” Ease of Addiction, emerging trends in video gaming, and the convergence and connection with disordered gambling. Whether speaking on prevention strategies, emerging trends, responsible gaming or recovery resources, Trolaro discusses the concept of gambling, addiction switching, co-occurrence, and behaviors associated with this devastating addiction.

The Progress Note: Where Law & Ethics Meet Efficiency

Description: This presentation is geared at increasing addiction counselor understanding of the legal, ethical, and liability-related factors that come into play with clinical documentation, regardless of pay source (insurance, public funding like Medicare, or private pay, etc.) or work context (agency, private practice, etc.). There will also be a discussion about strategies for how to conceptualize medical necessity and efficiently integrate it into different clinical documentation components. Participants will learn common ways in which providers unknowingly put themselves at risk in relation to documentation practices, best practice in clinical documentation, and strategies for clinicians about how to integrate standards of care into different clinical documentation components.

Presenter: Elizabeth “Beth” Irias, MS, LMFT

Elizabeth “Beth” Irias, MS, LMFT, is the founder and president of Clearly Clinical, a national podcast-based online behavioral health continuing education program. She has specializations in utilization review and clinical documentation and works closely with clinical teams across the country to reduce liability risks and improve their quality of care, documentation practices, and utilization review outcomes. She also operates a private practice where she provides therapy to adolescent/young adult clients, members of the LGBTQ+ population, and those with addictive disorders.

Peer Recovery Support Series, Section I: Building a Successful Culture in Your Organization

This webinar is part of the Peer Recovery Support Series provided as a collaborative effort between the Great Lakes ATTC and NAADAC.

Description: Peer recovery support services are increasingly becoming an important part of the behavioral healthcare workforce. So much so, the growth in opportunity is outpacing the fields ability to define best practices in how to integrate peer services into organizational practice. Nationally, there are various levels of experience and expertise. A continuous area of interest is utilizing peer support across the continuum of care. An important take away from those who do it well is that implementing an effective peer support program often requires a shift in the organizational culture. Engaging all stakeholders is crucial in developing peer recovery support service programming. Buy-in and support of senior leadership will contribute to the successful integration.

Presenter: Kris Kelly, BS, Jenna Neasbitt, MS, LCDC, MAT-R, and Philander E. Moore, Sr., MA, LCDC

Kris Kelly, BS, is the Minnesota State Project Manager for Great Lakes ATTC. She has worked with state and local government, recovery community organizations, treatment courts, withdrawal management/detoxification, and clinical treatment developing best practices for integrating recovery supports into systems & services. Kelly has presented at state and national conferences on topics ranging from supervision in peer-based recovery support services and integrating peer support services into behavioral health organizations to recovery-oriented systems of care.
Jenna Neasbitt, MS, LCDC, MAT-R, is a person in long term recovery using her expertise in personnel, clinical, policy, program analysis, and administration to enhance recovery-oriented systems of care in behavioral health. Neasbitt holds a Master of Science degree in Industrial/Organizational Psychology, works with the SAMHSA-Funded Opioid Response Network, is a volunteer site reviewer with the Council on Accreditation for Peer Recovery Support Services (CAPRSS), and is a Training Adjunct at the National Recovery Institute with Faces & Voices of Recovery.
Philander E. Moore, Sr., MA, LCDC, is a retired Texas Health and Human services employee of 27 years, where he served as the Unit Manager for the substance use disorder section. He orchestrated the implementation of the Texas Recovery Initiative in 2010, as well as the first recovery-oriented system of care (ROSC) in Texas. He has a Master of Arts and Human Services degree from St. Edwards University in Austin, TX and is a Licensed Chemical Dependency Counselor (LCDC).
