Description: The substance use disorder field has made many advances in the area of relapse prevention and treatment, and this presentation will build upon those advances in relation to the effective use of mindfulness and meditation as viable techniques for the treatment of relapse.

Comprehensive Medication Assisted Treatment |

Description: The presentation will include a discussion of different types of medication-assisted treatments for alcohol, nicotine, and opioids. Learn how to identify clients who would benefit from MAT, what information to have available to engage the client, how to help to develop compliance with the regimen, and how to prepare the client for eventual withdrawal from the long-term maintenance medications, or for ongoing maintenance.

Michael Weaver, MD, FASAM, DABAM, is a Professor in the Department of Psychiatry and Medical Director of the Center for Neurobehavioral Research on Addictions (CNRA) at the University of Texas Health Science Center McGovern Medical School at Houston. He is board-certified in both Internal Medicine and Addiction Medicine.

Don Hall, LCDC, is a person in long-term recovery. Since the initiation of his recovery, he became a Licensed Chemical Dependency Counselor in 1995 and has spent most of his career working with substance using, homeless, indigent, criminal justice, and mental health individuals, as well as working for many years with opiate abusing individuals seeking medication-assisted treatment. |
