Nearly all 50 states in the US has closed the doors to their schools due to COVID-19. The transition to digital learning has left many students whom do not have internet access in the dark. Technology has secured its place in education and has become an integral aspect of the learning environment.
Steered Straight uses technology to reach students and stay connected with them, the community, educators, and law enforcement after assemblies and seminars- however, our educational and prevention platform is formulated on a person-to-person connection.
Our organization is now 14 years strong and has reached over 10 million students in the United States. Due to the unfortunate circumstances that the world is enduring we are taking this mission on the road.
Our 60-day National Bus Tour:
We will be traveling to at least 18 states (and hopefully more) over the course of two months! While on the road we would like to see you, and your falculty, to discuss methods of how together we can mend the tradgic response to COVID-19 and be an asset and vital resource for students and families during this sudden transition. Our goal for the 60-day National Bus Tour is to visit more than 18 states, and anywhere from 20-40 schools per day. Michael DeLeon, founder of Steered Straight and America’s leading school presenter and drug-education expert, plans to spend 10 minutes at each school but will also stay longer if necessary. During the visit he will provide educators with resources for parents/guardians, and strategically navigate ways to send resources to them. Our goal is to visit 800 schools in hopes to reach 800,000 to 1.6 million students.
What’s happening in our country right now leaves us to believe that education on substance abuse is more vital and essential now more than ever. Alcohol sales have increased nationwide to an upward average of 55% and as high as 200% in some states. There has been an MASSIVE increase in drug use, and overdose as a result. The suicide help lines are being flooded with people crying out for help, and unfortunately the rates in death due to suicide have skyrocketed. There has also been a massive increase in domestic violence and child abuse across the country. Our goal is to arm people with the education they need to make positive and healthy choices, to give them hope and an outlet to choose alternative methods of dealing with life’s crisis and stressors versus relying on substances as a coping mechanism.
We have resources on our website, some of which are free and some which are at affordable prices, and will help individuals navigate through trying times.
Have your educators consider buying Table Talks and Dashboard Conversations in bulk as a resource for your students and their families.
