While social distancing and quarantine measures are in place to protect our health and physical safety, they are also fueling our loneliness. In recognition of Mental Health Awareness Month and the unique challenges families face as a result of COVID-19, we have timely resources to help you address any mental health challenges your family may be experiencing.
Telehealth to Treat Substance Use and Mental Health Problems: What Families Need to Know
As a parent, family member or caregiver of a child who is seeking support for mental health or substance use issues, figuring out how to get them the care they need during this time may be more challenging. This is where telehealth comes in. Telehealth is a combination of tools, including video-chat, text messaging, mobile apps, websites and more that help you get support from your own home.
Co-Occurring Disorders and Your Child
If your child or loved one has already been diagnosed with a co-occurring disorder, it can be helpful to keep track of symptoms and their severity, especially during this time of social distancing. These symptoms can include higher levels of anxiety, insomnia, agitation, inability to focus, etc., and it’s important to let providers know what your child is experiencing and/or encourage them to do so as well. A next step may be to seek a telehealth appointment, an alternative to in-person care during the pandemic.
