Our Mission:  Providing advocacy and recovery related services to individuals and family members impacted by addiction and/or mental health disorders. This Week at Message Carriers: January Community Meeting The next Community Meeting will be Tuesday, Jan. 14 at 5:30pm at Three Rivers Youth, 6117 Broad Street, Pittsburgh, PA  15206.  We will be discussing newly passed House Bill 137. In years gone by our legislators have passed several well intended bills which I believe to make a positive impact on those with substance misuse disorders. Recently, as of December 17, 2019, our legislators passed HB 137.  Its intent is to compel individuals who overdose to obtain a screening and referral for addiction treatment by making immunity from prosecution contingent upon their doing so within 30 days of receiving emergency services for the overdose. Join us on January 14, 2020, to share your thoughts on our legislative practices and learn how to have your voice heard. Clean Slate Pardons Expungement Workshop  Americans for Prosperity Foundation - Pennsylvania and A Second Chance, Inc. are pleased to invite you to join us as a partner for our first annual Clean Slate & Pardons Workshop on January 16, 2020, at A Second Chance, Inc., Rhonda D. Wright, Family Center at 8350 Frankstown Avenue, Pittsburgh, PA 15221 from 10:00 a.m.-1:00 p.m. The goal of our Clean Slate & Pardons Workshop is to provide second chances and fresh starts for those who were formerly incarcerated and are re-entering society. We firmly believe that the worst period of a person’s life should not define the rest of their life. By providing second chances and opportunities to seek pardon or expungement, formerly incarcerated individuals can move forward in pursuit of their goals. Save the Date for Two Spring Events! On Thursday, April 30, 2020 Message Carriers will be hosting its annual fundraiser, An Evening Celebrating Recovery at the Ace Hotel, 120 Whitfield Street, Pittsburgh, PA  15206.  More information to come. Our newest venture, the 2020 Highmark Walk will take place on Saturday, May 9, 2020.
