NAADAC Supports the Mental Health Professionals Workforce Shortage Loan Repayment Act
FacebookLinkedInTwitter
NAADAC is proud to show its support for the Mental Health Professionals Workforce Shortage Loan Repayment Act of 2019 by joining other stakeholders in seeking support from Senators Harris and Gardner for the bill.

This bill is a vital step in addressing our nation’s dire shortage of mental health professionals and reducing the unmet mental health treatment gap for Americans across the lifespan. According to the National Institutes of Mental Health, in the past year alone nearly one in five adults in the United States experienced a mental or behavioral health problem. A 2016 report from the Health Resources and Services Administration (HRSA) projected the supply of personnel in selected behavioral and mental health fields to be 250,000 workers short of the projected demand in 2025.

The Mental Health Professionals Workforce Shortage Loan Repayment Act of 2019 will amend the Public Health Service Act to authorize a loan repayment program for mental health professionals to relieve workforce shortages and for other purposes.

Congress Goes Purple for National Recovery Month
FacebookLinkedInTwitter
In honor of National Recovery MonthRepresentative David Trone (D-MD 6th District), in partnership with Representatives Denver Riggleman (R-VA 5th District), Annie Kuster (R-NH 2nd District), and Brian Fitzpatrick (R-PA 1st District), organized an awareness effort to recognize National Recovery Month in Congress on September 24.

Members of Congress wore purple ribbons throughout the day to show support for recovery. This effort was inspired by grassroots and local efforts focused on bringing awareness to the addiction epidemic.

In addition to wearing purple ribbons, members of congress were also asked to show support on social media, give floor speeches in recognition of National Recovery Month, and to co-sponsor a resolution recognizing National Recovery Month.
