Help Pass the Mainstreaming Addiction Treatment Act

TAKE ACTION
doctor prescribing
Too many barriers stand in the way of people receiving quality addiction treatment. Stigma is arguably the greatest barrier. Not only does it prevent people from seeking treatment, it has influenced policies and created regulatory hurdles that make addiction treatment inaccessible.

In terms of access to buprenorphine to treat opioid addiction, the existing waiver requirement for prescribers has greatly limited access to this evidence-based medication. To put this in perspective, there are no such restrictions to access narcotic pain relievers.

A bill was recently introduced to eliminate the waiver requirement. The time is long overdue to expand access to this life-saving treatment.
