Understanding Cultural Appropriation, Racism, Prejudice & Microaggressions Brief description of presentation: In this workshop, we will define terms and concepts often seen and directly experienced when discussing cultural diversity. As a clinician, teacher, or administrator operating in all parts of our system, we have a responsibility to educate ourselves, stand up for others, and advocate for all who are disenfranchised, marginalized, and discriminated against. We cannot assume we are open-minded or free from bias in our increasingly diverse culture. We all come with a set of biases and are influenced by the culture around us. If you are ready to tackle some difficult, but important concepts and topics in a collegial and professional environment, join us. When: August 16, 2019 Time: 9:00 am -12:00 pm Where: Laurel Ridge Education Center (Formerly Hope Church, Across from LRTC) 17903 Corporate Woods Dr., San Antonio, TX 78259 Objectives:  Define cultural appropriation, racism, prejudice, and microaggressions. Identify personal, cultural, and professional biases and how these can impact the clinical setting. Create a plan of action to ensure culturally sensitive, culturally competent and a culturally responsive practice. Participants must preregister. Check in begins at 8:30 am and doors will close promptly at 9:15 am. Participants must stay until the end of the training in order to receive CEUs. 3 CEUs will be provided for LPC, LMFT, LCDC, LCSW and Psychologists. All other licensees please refer to your licensing board. Please Note: We will not reissue certificates.
