SPECIAL EDITION November 14, 2018 • Vol. 6., No. 17
For Treatment Industry & Recovery Community
Letter from the Editor

Wednesday, Nov. 14, 2018

Dear friends and colleagues in the Malibu area,
Trauma and addiction are closely linked, and drugs and alcohol are often used to avoid the emotional pain of recalling traumas of the past. Today, however, the trauma of the fire that has destroyed most of the treatment facilities in Malibu, CA, and forced the evacuations of the rest, cannot be avoided. While dedicated firefighters and other service personnel fight against further destruction and make heroic sacrifices to save lives, the men and women who work in those Malibu rehabs are faced with enormous challenges. They are tasked with both the care of their families and staff, and the safe relocation of their clients to other facilities. From counselors to executives, and everyone in between, these treatment center professionals have put the care and recovery of those entrusted to them as a top priority, while facing their own situations of danger, despair and loss.

We often don’t realize the depth of service and compassion – and creative problem solving – that professionals in the treatment field utilize everyday, and today in Malibu more than ever. With both pride in their service, and compassion for their challenges, those of us at the Addiction/Recovery eBulletin want them to understand that we acknowledge what they are doing, and the love and care with which they are doing it.

In this most heated and heartbreaking of situations, recovery has many meanings and many manifestations. May God’s Grace and Blessings surround and assist them in all their efforts.

If anyone would like to send us an update on your circumstances, we would be happy to publish it in our Friday, Weekend Edition and on our regular weekly Tuesday edition.
