Your voice matters! Yesterday, the House of Representatives passed the SUPPORT for Patients and Communities Act (H.Res. 1099) to stem the nation’s opioid crisis. This bipartisan, bicameral compromise contains a number of NAADAC priorities and reflects your efforts in advocating for your profession and the clients you serve. Your continued phone calls and emails to your Members of Congress have made a difference!
We are pleased to report that the final agreement includes key provisions that would:
- Incentivize individuals to pursue substance use disorder treatment professions by offering student loan relief;
- Protect against the erosion of privacy rights of individuals with substance use disorders; and
- Remove the IMD exclusion for all substance use disorder treatment and allow Medicaid payment for eligible individuals for up to 30 days annually.
For additional details, please see the section-by-section summary as well as the full text of the bill.
We expect the Senate to consider the bill within the first two weeks of October. Please contact your Senators and urge a YES vote on the SUPPORT for Patients and Communities Act.
Thank you for your dedication to support those in need of addiction and mental health prevention, intervention, treatment, and recovery support!
