Is addiction a choice? This workshop will present current understanding of the medical model of addiction. Learners will see the neurobiology that underpins the brain disease of addiction presented in an easy to understand format. We will focus on the rewarding aspect of substances, the neural correlates of craving, and the brain changes that chronic substance exposure leads to. After attending this workshop, attendees will be able to use scientific evidence to explain that addiction is a disease, rather than a choice.
