HOPE in ACTION
SEPTEMBER 2020
Thank you for giving help that leads to hope
Dear Joseph,
I’ve seen over and over how much hope matters to the men, women, and children who seek help from CityTeam. It doesn’t matter what people come for — to eat a meal, to recover from addiction, for a hot shower, or a night of safe shelter — most eventually realize that something more important is missing from their life: hope.
Through God’s blessing, and your generosity, people can finally know real, restoring hope. I think every person who comes to us deserves the chance to experience hope. I trust you agree.
I’m personally grateful that so many partners have stood with us. I’m praying you’ll stand with CityTeam to share the kind of help that leads to hope. Thank you for all you do to provide help and hope for those who are hungry, hurting, and homeless. And thank you for working together with us to make this a better community for all.
With deep gratitude,
Kwinn Tucker
Executive Director, CityTeam Chester
Walking into New Life
Chris used to spend his day in aimless walking. But today, thanks to you, he has found his purpose.
Lost in addiction. Sleeping outside in the freezing cold. Walking the streets aimlessly, with no hope. No one to help him. Always walking. Sometimes even walking through the night just to keep warm. That was Chris’s life.
To survive, Chris panhandled or went to churches that provided food to the homeless. Chris says, “I didn’t really know where I was going. I just kept walking — until I couldn’t walk anymore.” As he walked, Chris says, “I always had my head down, because I didn’t want anyone to see my face.”
But now, thanks to you and other partners who support this work of restoration and redemption, Chris has found his purpose . . . a reason to live. Besides finding sobriety, CityTeam has helped Chris in other ways, including catching up on his education and developing career plans.
Through our CityTeam @ Work program, Chris earned credits toward an Associate Degree and is considering work in substance abuse counseling or case management. Chris has also had the blessing of restoring broken relationships with his family, which had been ruined by his drug use and drinking.
Chris says, “I found out that what makes me happy is helping people. When I help people, it’s fulfilling.” Right now, Chris is a CityTeam House Manager. His job is to ensure the men in our recovery program are “where they need to be, when they need to be there.” He says, “I’m being a good friend and leader to them, someone they can look up to.”
Your support of CityTeam makes new life possible for people like Chris. Thank you for giving to make his life restoration possible!
Big Backpack Blessings
With support from generous supporters from our entire community, we were able to provide 2,200 backpacks filled with school supplies. We are so thankful for the generosity of our community who stepped up to make sure kids in our neighborhood have what they need at the start of this school year.
We would especially like to thank the churches and families who collected supplies as well as the faithful sponsors who donated financially for bulk priced purchases. We couldn’t do this without you and the love of Christ shines through you! Thank you.
New CityTeam Website Now Live
Our brand new CityTeam website just launched. You will now be able to find a new Stories section and we made updates to Get Involved and Ways to Give. We are immensely grateful for an outpouring of support throughout COVID as staff and volunteers have stepped up to expand critical food distribution needs across the communities we serve. Please reach out if you have questions to info@cityteam.org
More Updates & Ways to Help
Now it’s even easier to donate stock.
We are excited to announce we now have a friction-less solution for donating publicly-traded stock to CityTeam that automates the charitable stock transfer process, allowing you to donate stock directly without coordinating with brokers, financial advisors, or donor-advised funds securely online.
You can now visit our Donate Stock page, securely connect to your brokerage, and select the shares you want to give. You’ll also receive the relevant charitable deduction tax documentation.
If you have appreciated stock, this is a tax-efficient way to make a donation. You can have an even greater impact in funding ministry by getting resources to where needed most to provide food, shelter, and care, while also saving more money on taxes.
Emergency Items Meet Critical Needs through Amazon Wishlists
We are so grateful for so many items being purchased in order to get urgently needed supplies to neighbors struggling to get basic needs met, like ready-to-eat food, water, hygiene supplies, and more.
As the impact of COVID continues, emergency needs remain. We updated our lists to include the most critical items. Thank you for considering what products you can sponsor or sharing this link with others who may be able to help. Email info@cityteam.org for your in kind letter for charitable tax documentation.
Volunteer Your Time
Volunteers are critical to our ability to meet the present needs in our community. Volunteers help deliver groceries, sort and organize clothing, virtually mentor or tutor, and more. Sign-up to help.
