COVID-19 pandemic has put many individual’s lives at stand still, but those who are in recovery are the most affected ones. Patients in recovery are already dealing with a lot and the pandemic has made it more difficult to seek in-person help. However, as every bad experience teaches us something, this too has taught us the need to wisely use technology. Many therapists and people have joined hands together to set up various online resources that encourage individuals to seek help and continue their fight against addiction. However, that is not the only way you can stay sober during the pandemic.
Addiction is very common in individuals. The National Survey on Drug Use and Health (NSDUH) reported that 19.7 million individuals over the age of 12 suffered from substance abuse in 2017. In this article, we will discuss some of the risk factors for addiction that can affect an individual. It’s essential to identify the signs and get the help an individual needs.
According to the University of Wisconsin at Eau Claire, music stimulates certain activities in the brain that can assuage the effects of addiction. For instance, music can help produce GABA inhibitors. These neurotransmitters are responsible for the balancing of the neurotransmitters in the brain, including dopamine. If the brain is producing the right amount of this important neurotransmitter, then the brain can properly monitor the amount of dopamine released and retrieved between neurons. They prevent the receptors from becoming over-stimulated.
What long-term effects will this epidemic have on everyone's well-being? SRC's very own Chrissy Orellana sat down with FOX 10 News to discuss the effects of the current pandemic on mental health. They discuss the alarming trends that are coming out of the coronavirus epidemic and what this could mean for addiction recovery.
