❓Are Your Reasons to Recover Selfish?

If I asked you what motivates you to stay sober? What would you say?

I find that in a lot of recovery circles, there seems to be a strange unwillingness to admit that we get sober so that we can live better lives. For instance, if I were to tell you that I got sober so I could:

  1. Travel more
  2. Find a better job to be better provide for myself.
  3. Prove other people wrong about me who used to call me a loser or a “junkie”

What would you think about me? Would you think I was being selfish? or self-seeking? or unspiritual?

This is a topic I want to bring up simply because I find it interesting. Many people get sober because they want to be of service to their fellow man and I think that’s wonderful.
I am saying that it is okay to give yourself permission to get sober so that you can get your life back. Life is meant to be enjoyed. Sobriety brings us peace and serenity and most of all, it gives us options.
What's your "why?" Whats your reason to recover?

Hit reply and let me know! Enjoy the rest of this week's highlights.

“As soon as I have enough money, I’ll finally be able to reach my goals.”

How many of us have said similar things to ourselves? We put off things that make us feel fulfilled in order to meet our immediate needs. Oftentimes, we get so focused on how we’re going to get something accomplished, and we lose sight of “what” we’re trying to accomplish in the first place.

πŸŽ™️ Addicted to Art

Scott built a successful career as an attorney and then eventually tore it all down when his drug use graduated to crack cocaine and heroin.
After going through multiple treatment programs, Scott landed in a sober house in Florida and got involved in a recovery community. He continued to make time for painting, which he had always enjoyed. His career as an artist blew up after entering a few pieces of artwork in a local show.
Today Scott is 13 years sober and he's a full-time artist.
