Drugs On Overdose

Drugs On Overdose
Phil O'Hara
Philip O'hara is a powerful presenter and speaker for Steered Straight.

Phil took his first drink when he was in the 7th grade and at the age of 13 he started smoking marijuana. One day he went to the dentist office and had a tooth pulled, so they prescribed him Vicodin to reduce the pain. He went to wrestling practice and took two of the pills that were prescribed. What happened next? HE HAD THE BEST PRACTICE EVER! This is where his drug story took a turn... He begun using Percocet to boost his athletic performance. Eventually Oxycodone became his drug of choice, and when that got to expensive he started using Heroin. After a while he realized "The drugs are no longer fun. They don't feel good any more". He said, "I started wanting to change". After two years of using heroin, Phil started to move in the direction of change. He begun going to church and reading his bible. But it wasn't until he survived a drug-overdose that he chose to stop taking his life for granted and actually forced him to make a change. He surrounded himself with people that had walked in his He decided that drugs would not be the thing that takes him out and he committed to change.
Some of the most common reasons youth begin to take drugs are: to fit in, to escape or relax, to relieve boredom, to seem grown up, to rebel, to experiment, and to boost performance/ mood.
