He believes that not all addicts need to be in a hospital to get well. They can live in home-like settings and have time for social interaction and daily living skills, in addition to lectures and therapy. Dr. Stone has treated over 70,000 addicts and their families' since 1969. He is well known and respected in the professional community. He has treated clients from all walks of life as well as celebrities and prominent business professionals from all over the world. He graduated from Sheffield University Medical School, England in 1967. In 1969 he opened and directed the first hospital-based treatment center in Canada. He was Medical Director of Care Unit Hospital, Orange, a famous psychiatric hospital, at a time when alcoholism and drug treatment was coming out of the closet and becoming more acceptable. He and his team were asked to train the first medical director and family program director at the Betty Ford Center. Dr. Stone is a caring professional who has committed himself to helping people with addictive diseases. Many of his patients have dual diagnoses and co-occurring disorders in addition to their addictive disease. Dr. Stone has been married for 50 years. He is extremely proud of his 3 adult children who work full-time at Cornerstone. He enjoys the beach, loves dogs, and reads science fiction novels in his free time. His special loves are his 5 grandchildren with whom he enjoys spending time. First, who am I and why should you believe me? Well, as a young family doctor I arrived in the metropolis of Estevan, Saskatchewan (population 10,000) in the fall of 1969 just as the Sisters of St. Joseph decided to open an addiction treatment unit in their community hospital. None of the doctors in town wanted the job of Medical Director and neither did I. Anyway, another doctor and I were volunteered. At the time my belief was that addicts were just weak people who needed to pull themselves together and stop drinking or using. I soon learned I was so wrong in my understanding of addiction. A lay person, Ray McNab, sat me down late in 1969 and read me the riot act. He was very clear, "How the heck are addicts going to get help/treatment if you so and so doctors cannot get your act together and start treating them for the disease they so clearly have?" He directed me to read some books, especially the Big Books of Alcoholics Anonymous, and attend some AA meetings. Luckily for my addict patients I quickly became educated in addiction medicine and got rid of my old ideas and feelings about "those" sorts of people. Today I look back over the past 50 years and I am very pleased that I have been able to help over 70,000 addicts and their support systems in that time. I continue to practice addiction medicine as a family physician and love it most of the time. Yes, there are gonna be times like these in Life.Recovery does not mean that life will be trouble and pain-free . Humility will always keep pride from running your show and ruining everything!There will always be people who take part in pulling you down and beating you up especially when life doesn't go the way they planned it. By all means, if you are the cause of pain to yourself or others then, by all means, recognize and own it.Apologize and make restitution!If that's, not the case then Don't give in to an and lose your Recovery look at it as an opportunity to grow in your relationship with God. Fourteen years in Recovery and I still face this every day and other peoples expectations of you when not met can put them in a very bad place and in turn, they will attack.No matter how rough it gets remember who you are how far you have come and never give them the satisfaction of beating you into submission and ruining your Recovery.

Thank you in advance for reading Summer's story. She has a message to share! Don't Believe the Lies Satan is the father of lies and he controls us by fear. He controlled me with fear. I was so scared to deal with my past. Satan used material things to keep my attention on him and to want more of the world. I'm a mother of three, and here is a little of my story. I've made bad choices in the past. I wanted to do it on my own. Even though I made a mess out of my life God has forgiven me.  I found myself broken and empty. It was at that moment when I deserved it the least that I felt God's love the most. My Dad picked me up at the police station. I had been arrested and charged with a DUI and possession of meth. Within two weeks I was at Teen Challenge. I had a choice to make. I could surrender everything or I could continue down the path I was on -- a path leading to death. Summer with her children The moment I chose to follow God I had such a sense of peace and joy. That shows you that God is enough because I left everything behind to go to Teen Challenge. My kids, my friends, my phone, everything that I took comfort in was gone. I then discovered God's peace and joy. I did not go a single day at Teen Challenge without His comfort. Philippians 3:12 says, "Not that I have already obtained all this, or have already arrived at my goal, but I press on to take hold of that for which Christ Jesus took hold of me." That's what life is about. I'm not perfect; I will never be perfect, but I have Christ on my side and He gives me hope. I will never be alone and I will go where He leads me. I just want people to know, not to believe Satan's' lies, and to know that God loves them and He wants a relationship with them. God has given me my children back. He's more than enough.
