Is addiction a choice? This workshop will present current understanding of the medical model of addiction. Learners will see the neurobiology that underpins the brain disease of addiction presented in an easy to understand format. We will focus on the rewarding aspect of substances, the neural correlates of craving, and the brain changes that chronic substance exposure leads to. After attending this workshop, attendees will be able to use scientific evidence to explain that addiction is a disease, rather than a choice.

Learning Objectives

  • Describe the medical basis of addiction
  • Discuss the role of the reward system in addiction
  • Explore brain correlates of craving and impulsivity

National Recovery Month Events

 

Our Mission:  To provide advocacy and recovery related services to individuals and family members impacted by the disease of addiction and/or mental health disorders.

September Events at Message Carriers

September is National Recovery Month. Let's celebrate the joy of recovery together!

Monthly Community meetings are to engage the community on legislative issues, community involvement, advocating, supporting recovery initiatives for family and community.

The all recovery meeting is a place where anyone impacted by the disease of addiction has a safe place to share their experiences, strength and hopes. It is nondenominational and not affiliated with any 12-step anonymous group. We encourage those on MAT, family/loved ones and the community as a whole to participate on this virtual platform.

CERTIFIED Recovery Specialist (CRS) only monthly Meeting - This is a collaboration group for CRS’s that will meet once a month to share resources, RECOVERY consultations, offer feedback and support.

Providers Monthly meeting - This is a collaboration group that will be developed by the attendees on how they want this group to become, share resources, offer support and feedback.

Recovery Lights Up The Night Bike Ride on Sept. 12
