Overview:

The prevalence of substance use among individuals with schizophrenia is much higher than in the general population. This presentation addresses the reasons behind this association and discusses treatment implications. 


Participants:

  • Will become familiar with the symptoms of schizophrenia.
  • Will become aware of the role of substances in creating and exacerbating the symptoms of schizophrenia
  • Will understand some of the factors that contribute to the high rates of substance use in individuals with schizophrenia and the resulting treatment implications.

Dr. Alan Fine
Medical Director
Colorado Recovery
Dr. Alan Fine, psychiatrist, is the Medical Director of Colorado Recovery. He is the past Medical Director of Foothills Behavioral Health Partners, Aurora Presbyterian Hospital Psychiatry, and Denver Center for Mental Health Services. Dr. Fine has extensive experience in a variety of settings including inpatient, outpatient, and community mental health centers He is a member of the American Psychiatric Association and Colorado Psychiatric Society. He holds a bachelor’s degree in mathematics from Princeton University and a medical degree from Case Western Reserve University School of Medicine.

As the weather continues to only get hotter and hotter, those who are experiencing homelessness are in need of supplies and clothing to keep them cool and safe during the hot summer months. 

At Sunday Breakfast Mission it is our mission to provide those most vulnerable in our communities with the food, clothes, and shelter they need to stay safe during the summertime. 

We are currently in need of loose shortsdeodorant, and waterproof backpacks to give to all those who come to the Mission in search of their basic needs being met.
