June Programming & Spring Recap

June 2021
Montgomery County Recovery Community Center
Spring Recap
Spring Certified Recovery Specialist Training Class
This spring, the MCRCC schloarshipped ten individuals to become Certified Recovery Specialists! Stay tuned to our future newsletters for more information on upcoming CRS and CFRS training opportunities.
A solution to a common challenge
We have great news! Transportation is often discussed as one of the biggest barriers to accessing recovery support services. The center now has a new van that will help remove some of those barriers for our participants. Special thanks to the Montgomery County Offices of Drug and Alcohol & Managed Care Solutions for funding of the minivan!
Volunteer Appreciation
At our Family Recovery Day, volunteers Mark Zebrowski and Sharon Reading were awarded Certificates of Appreciation by Claudia Herman, our Recovery Programs Specialist.

We are now recruiting volunteers to help at our front desk and with table events. The center is also in need of group facilitators and peer mentors for those who are interested in working 1:1 with participants.

, It's time for planting and our June Newsletter!

Greetings!
As we plant our gardens for the summer, it's almost impossible not to see the resemblance between gardening and our hearts. In the same way, we plant seeds in the ground hoping for fruit, we also hope that the seeds of the Gospel planted in people's hearts will grow to bear fruit. We hope that you enjoy reading Rebecca's story of redemption, seeing her grow into her new identity in Christ.
Redeeming the Past—June 2021 Newsletter
Barranquilla, Colombia is one of the largest cities and ports on the coast of the Caribbean Sea. The city is filled
to the brim with people. If you walk along the streets you may find shops and stands selling anything from produce to trinkets. Sirens and car horns mix in among the loud music blaring from the shops and the shouting voices. This bustling city was Rebecca’s home for many years as a missionary kid.

Surrounded by the violence of kidnappings, guerrilla warfare, and abuse, she lived in fear daily. She had spent most of her adult life suppressing her fear and anxiety, trying to be stable enough to help others. “Even though I trusted in Jesus as my Lord and Savior at a young age and grew up in the church – I didn’t know true life in Christ.”
