The Council's Tree of Hope event has been an annual tradition for the past 30 years. This year, Montgomery County and all of our centers are coming together for a virutal event! We are asking the community to decorate the “Tree of Hope” with personalized ornaments bearing the names of people being honored. Whether to commemorate those who have lost their lives to addiction or to celebrate and honor a life gained in recovery, each ornament placed on the beautiful evergreen is a representation of the hope of recovery from addiction.

PRO-ACT (Pennsylvania Recovery Organization - Achieving Community Together) is hosted by The Council of Southeast Pennsylvania, Inc.; a private, non-profit 501(c)3 organization. , here is your His Mansion December Newsletter

Greetings!
Christmas is a time is the time for giving and spending time with loved ones. In this busy time of year, our attention can often drift from what is most important. But let us not forget the reason for this season—the birth of Jesus Christ. God loved us enough to send His Son to earth and give humanity a new hope found only in Him.

It was this realization that set Wes free from his burden of shame. No longer did he have to live with the guilt of his past sins. Instead, he could live freely in a relationship with his Savior. Read more of Wes' moving story below!

Shadowed by Shame—December 2020 Newsletter
The complexity of shame can often dictate the direction our lives will take. Although part of the spectrum of emotions given to us by the Lord, shame can be the driving force to a persons’ self-destruction. For Wes, the weight of deep-rooted shame led him to His Mansion in 2019, even after becoming sober, accepting Christ, and living and working in full time ministry.

One can find his identity in Christ, but still feel the need to hide his true self in God's presence. "I was living in fear and feeling unworthy of love and connection." Yet, connection was Wes' greatest need.

The Triple Pandemic:
How NAATP is Helping Providers Fight Racism,
COVID-19, and Addiction.
Wed. Dec. 16th
 12pm - 1pm  MT
Cost: Free
1  CEU Offered
Overview:
The COVID-19 pandemic has both revealed and exacerbated this inequity.  With the confluence of multiple public health crises and tragedies this year, many people are turning to substance use to manage stress, and more than ever need treatment services. The treatment providers themselves are tired, worn out, and trying to continue offering life-saving care in the midst of their own trauma exposure.
In this presentation we will:
  1. Examine the impact of COVID-19 and other recent crises on health, substance use, and health care providers.
  2. Discuss the role of systemic racism in sustaining disparities in healthcare including addiction treatment
  3. Identify ways in which we can implement systemic change to help more people get the care they need, and support the people who provide the care.
Presenter:
Annie Peters, PhD, LP
Director of Research and Education
