Join presenters Lisa Connors, LBSW, LCPC, NCC, MAC, ABD, for this free NAADAC webinar which will encourage dialogue that looks at the intersection of slavery, racism, sex, and HIV among African American women. It will address myths, stereotypes, generalizations, and micro-aggressions made by society that continue to stigmatize, oppress, and marginalize this population. Having these conversations will potentially ensure that African American women are treaty fairly and justly, especially in a society where racism is rampant.

Scholarships Available for the Northwest Regional Conference!

Thanks to the generous support of our partners, as well as the NAADAC Education and Research Foundation, NAADAC is able to provide a limited number of conference scholarships to cover full or partial registration fees for those who might not otherwise be able to attend our 2019 Northwest Regional Conference: Embracing the Future from June 13 - June 15, 2019 at the Portland Marriott Downtown Waterfront in Portland OR.

The conference will feature three intensive days of training sessions with celebrated national trainers such as David Dickinson, MA, Carlo DiClemente, PhD, Cynthia Moreno Tuohy, BSW, NCAC II, CDC III, SAP, Malcolm Horn, LCSW, MAC, SAP, and K. Michelle Peavy, PhD. Topics include clinical supervision, clinical skills, co-occurring disorders, and practice management.

All scholarship awardees are required to pay for any other fees and all travel and lodging expenses. To apply for a conference scholarship, please submit an application by May 10, 2019. Scholarship awardees will be notified by May 16, 2019.

National Prescription Drug Take Back Day Is April 27th

Unused or expired prescription medications at home are a public safety issue and can lead to accidental poisoning, overdose, and abuse. Unused prescriptions thrown in the trash can be retrieved and abused or illegally sold. The misuse and abuse of over-the-counter medications, illicit drugs, alcohol, and tobacco affect the health and well-being of millions of Americans.

On Saturday, April 27, 2019, from 10:00am to 2:00pm EDT, the Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA), in partnership with federal, state, local, and tribal law enforcement, businesses, medical offices, agencies, and first responders, will host events to collect and safely dispose of unwanted medications.

The Mission will have a presence at both the Magnolia Festival in Gardendale and the Celebrate Hoover event on Saturday, April 27th!

The Magnolia Festival will run from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. at the Gardendale Civic Center and the Hoover celebration is scheduled for 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. at Veterans Park near Spain Park High School.

Mission executive director Tony Cooper will be the guest speaker at the annual Greater Birmingham Mayors' Prayer Breakfast hosted by the honorable Randall Woodfin on May 2nd. The gathering will take place in the Sheraton Grand Ball Room on the National Day of Prayer.

We would like to ask for your prayers as we continue to work helping the poor and hurting in our community.
Join us as we host Faith & Family Night with the Birmingham Barons on Friday, May 3rd at Regions Field downtown! Enjoy an evening filled with baseball and a post-game fireworks show.
