Wellness in the workplace

Happy Birthday Aquarius!

As more and more people discover the benefits of yoga, the 3,000-year-old practice is increasingly finding its way into the workplace. In fact, the demand for corporate yoga has created whole squadrons of yoga teachers who specialize in office settings. The benefits of providing yoga and other mindfulness activities during lunch-hours or breaks are probably obvious to anybody who already does yoga, but a lot of them are backed up by research. If you're considering bringing yoga into your business — or trying to talk your boss into providing classes — knowing about these benefits might pave the way for future yoga sessions! Click here for more information from Livestrong’s blog on What Are the Benefits of Yoga in the Workplace?
If You’re An Optimist, It Could Help You Live Longer...

According to a study from Duke University Medical Center, heart patients who were more optimistic about their treatment, actually lived longer than those who were more pessimistic in their mindsets. Also, according to findings of a study published in the European Heart Journal, people who are optimistic have less chance of suffering from heart disease.
Throughout the month of February, we encourage your Human Resource Department to write positive affirmations on hearts and post them in an area that is visible to all staff, such as a lounge or cafeteria. Each heart (simply cut out on multi-colored construction paper) should have a message written on it, like: "You are amazing," "Keep up the good work," "You are brilliant," and so on. These daily affirmations reinforce positivity and keep employees’ spirits up. It's a great tie-in to February, the month of love, and boosts company morale. It's creative, easy to do, and the staff will appreciate it. It's a spin on the "self-love" challenge where you write daily affirmations to yourself, with phrases including, "I am smart," and "I am enough," but now we open it to everyone and continue the same concept in the workplace.

February 7, 2019 Through The Twelve Steps With Spiritual Truth From Scripture TODAY 3

February 7, 2019 Through The Twelve Steps With Spiritual Truth From Scripture TODAY 3

Step 3: Made a decision to turn our will and our lives over to the care of God !

Psalm 119:43  (NLT)  Do not snatch your word of truth from me,for your regulations are my only hope.

Before my own personal journey in recovery and self discovery I was without hope and broken  beyond all repair, so I thought. I was ten years old when my life veered off course and my brokenness began. At the hands of a cousin I was molested and so the seeds of self destruction were planted. Anger, fear ,sadness, and confusion became my reasons for becoming a man made monster hell bent on getting even with the world. Along the way I discovered all sorts of chemical substances which lied too me and tricked me into believing that I could handle life and everything would be ok as long as I self medicated. Wow what I joke I became ! Life continued to spiral out of control and life became something I wanted out of more that anything else in the world.Without hope broken lost and determined not to go on Hope showed up! It came through the prayers from loved ones who wanted nothing more than the best for me.For once in my life ,I wanted to try and find out who I was and so my journey began. My eyes and ears were finally open and I discovered God ! He gave me help ,healing, and  hope somehow it came to me spiritually which in turn gave me the physical ability to take control of my actions and take responsibility for the mess I made of my life. All of my trust is in Him and through His word I now have Hope.

Hebrews 4:12-13  (NIV)
For the word of God is alive and active. Sharper than any double-edged sword, it penetrates even to dividing soul and spirit, joints and marrow; it judges the thoughts and attitudes of the heart. 13 Nothing in all creation is hidden from God’s sight. Everything is uncovered and laid bare before the eyes of him to whom we must give account.

Should We Still Call Ourselves Addicts?

What comes to mind when you hear those term alcoholic or addict? There are some of us that think of a friend in recovery who's been successful. Some think of a troubled celebrity that's been headlined in the news.
Either way, the term carries a stigma.

Recently, professionals have noted that it's time to use words that don't carry such a judgement and have resorted to "person-first language" such as "person with substance use disorder" to replace the negative terms and connotations such as "addict" or "junkie."

We were lucky enough to sit down with Devin Reaves, president of the Pennsylvania Harm Reduction Coalition to discuss this increasingly important issue in our society today.
