A New Life Journey:
Empowering Thoughts Inspired by the
Women for Sobriety 13 Statements
Hello WFS Friends,
We have just finished printing VOLUME 3 of Karen Hamm's spiral bound booklet, A New Life Journey!  To update our newest members.... several years ago, I received a call from Karen, mentioning an idea for a new booklet.  A member of her WFS group, Susan Perry, enjoyed hearing from Karen about upcoming discussion topics and she asked Karen if she would email a positive note each day.... several hundred emails later... and a new inspirational booklet was created!  Karen leads meetings in Tuscaloosa, Alabama and she is also a member of the WFS Board of Directors.  We are excited to present the next volume of new daily, inspirational passages to our members and friends who wish to read about Karen's thought-provoking personal experiences as she works each of the 13 WFS Statements in her recovery journey.  There are 180 spiral bound pages for only $8.99.  Here is the link to order Volume 3 edition at our catalog site

Have you been a Rob Lowe fan from the early days, when he was a hard-partying member of the Brat Pack? Perhaps you discovered Rob more recently, sitting down for a night of laughs watching Parks and Recreation. Even if you don’t keep up with Hollywood, there’s no doubt you know Rob’s face.

In the Fall issue of Renew, Rob Lowe shares how sobriety has shaped his life, bringing him fame, fortune and faith. His words are inspiring, but his actions speak even louder – Rob has been sober for 25 years!

Read Rob’s story and the stories of other people who are not just surviving, but THRIVING in recovery, including:
  • Teri Griege, who has overcome addiction and cancer, going on to become an Ironman competitor.
  • Rusty Golden, whose new album, “Sober” is a testament to his life in recovery.
  • Michael DeLeon, a former felon turned filmmaker and recovery advocate.
Also in this issue, you’ll find support for the whole family. Learn about:
  • B.A.L.M., an “Al-Anon Plus” recovery program that empowers family members, even if their addicted loved one isn’t ready to get help.
  • The new documentary telling the story of Amy Winehouse’s amazing career and tragic death.
  • Recovery from spending and shopping addiction, and getting your finances back on track.
We know you’ll love this inspiring issue, so be sure to “like” and “share” Renew onFacebook and Twitter, and visitwww.reneweveryday.com for the latest addiction and recovery news between issues.

Be well!

RED RIBBON WEEK - OCT 23rd-31st

The week of October 23rd through October 31st is a week focused on parents' involvement in drug prevention throughout the United States. This year's theme is "Respect Yourself. Be Drug Free" for National Red Ribbon Week.

Red Ribbon Week is sponsored by the National Family Partnership (NFP), a nonprofit organization created by parents dedicated to drug prevention and advocacy. The NFP is partnered with hundreds of groups and organizations across the country. They provide awareness, advocacy and resources to parents who want to keep the conversation about drug use open with their children.

Only 25 percent of parents talk to their children about drug use. These children are then over 40 percent less likely to experiment with drugs. So why aren't more parents having conversations with their children on this topic? The NFP and Red Ribbon Week hope to bring more awareness to the topic so more parents discuss dangerous drug use with their children.

To get involved in the Red Ribbon Campaign, you are encouraged to wear a red ribbon on your clothing throughout the week, participate in local community events focused on this topic or create an open dialogue with your own children.

Click here to learn more about the Red Ribbon Campaign, or to sign the pledge.

What's the pledge about?

  1. As parents and citizens, we will talk to our children and the children in our lives about the dangers of drug abuse.
  2. We will set clear rules for our children about not using drugs.
  3. We will set a good example for our children by not using illegal drugs or medicine without a prescription.
  4. We will monitor our children's behavior and enforce appropriate consequences, so that our rules are respected.
  5. We will encourage family and friends to follow the same guidelines to keep children safe from substance abuse.
For tips and resources to help you talk with your youth, please contact The Council's Prevention Program:
