What Addiction Professionals Should Know About Medical Marijuana

Wednesday, December 4, 2019 @ 3-5:00pm ET (2 CT/1 MT/12 PT)

Description: Medical marijuana is now broadly or partially legalized in 28 states, though it remains illegal under federal law. Variation in laws can create confusion for mental health professionals, raising a number of questions for mental health professionals in both clinical and forensic settings. This confusion has led to many questions by practitioners, such as: What does the law say about medical marijuana in my state? How do I know whether my client is using medical marijuana therapeutically vs. abusing it? What are the risks, side effects, and potential drawbacks of medical marijuana? If my client uses medical marijuana, can employers discriminate against him or her? What do I do if a client is referred to me for substance use disorder treatment but is legally taking prescribed marijuana? This webinar seeks to answer these questions and more.

Successful Treatment of Methamphetamine Addiction

Upon successful completion of your quiz, please email your Annual Conference Registration receipt to ce@naadac.org and we will make sure you receive your CEs for free! Register now to join the live webinar and an opportunity for a live Q&A with Nuckols.

Description: Methamphetamine is a drug of rapid addiction and destruction. This webinar will focus on the impact of methamphetamine and how this powerful drug changes the brain of the user - a process called addiction. Early alcohol and/or drug use combined with non-enriched home and/or community environments can delay the development of the prefrontal cortex. Therefore, many individuals with addiction entering treatment are not candidates for rehabilitation but in need of a habilitative approach to care. Based on cognitive, emotional and attachment needs, practical strategies to challenge prefrontal growth (neurogenesis) will also be reviewed. Lastly, treating methamphetamine is in many ways different than treating alcoholism. This webinar will give participants a clear picture of the process of recovery. Timelines and stages of recovery will be explored noting the pitfalls that must be overcome along the way.

Presenter: Cardwell “C.C.” Nuckols, PhD

Cardwell “C.C.” Nuckols, PhD, has served the behavioral medicine field for over 40 years and for the last 25 years is considered one of the leading experts in the world on addiction and recovery. A: I got well from alcohol addiction on my own because I was too afraid to talk about what I was going through. But it doesn't have to be that way.

A Thanksgiving Message from Our CEO

Dear Joseph,

Thanksgiving offers us the chance to say how grateful we are to all those who have supported Sunday Breakfast Rescue Mission this past year. This coming Thursday, I wish that all of you could experience the joy of gratitude in the air of our Dining Hall, as many come to the Mission to experience community and the sense of family.
Without the Mission, many would be alone and without any family to gather around a festive meal.
In fact – watch this video from 6abc to hear what Sunday Breakfast residents are thankful for and learn how much food is needed to make this Thanksgiving possible…
During this season of Thanksgiving, my heart is filled with gratitude to you. I am so blessed to minister here every day, and I am reminded daily of how important your commitment to supporting our ministry is to each of our guests and residents. Over the past year, you have faithfully provided life-changing care to homeless, hungry, and hurting men and women.
Our aims and pursuits come from Jesus’ words recorded in Luke 14:13-14 (NIV): “But when you give a banquet, invite the poor, the crippled, the lame, the blind, and you will be blessed. Although they cannot repay you, you will be repaid at the resurrection of the righteous.”
This Thanksgiving and Christmas season, I pray that you will join us as we deepen our commitment to love and care for the poor and vulnerable in our City of Brotherly Love. In doing so, you will be blessed!
Thank you for continuing to walk alongside us in partnership. Your support is essential for our ministry to continue to meet the practical and spiritual needs of the men and women whom we serve 365 days of the year, ministering every day in the name of Jesus Christ.

With my gratitude,
Jeremy Montgomery
President/CEO

PS The Mission continues to be Philly’s only place where someone can receive 3 meals a day, 365 days of the year. HOPE = Total Life Transformation = It begins with a meal!
