Blurred Lines: The Convergence of Gaming and Gambling

Wednesday, May 8, 2019 @ 3:00-4:00pm ET (2 CT/1 MT/12 PT)

Description: In today’s society, it is normal to enjoy social gaming. Whether for excitement, escape, or a way to test one’s skill, many find it to be an enjoyable activity to stay connected with others. For some, however, social gaming can lead to destructive patterns and behaviors ultimately resulting in disordered gambling. This workshop will identify the background and connection between social games, eSports, and internet gambling while addressing the issues and establishing principles of meaningful recovery.

Presenter: Daniel Trolaro, MS

Daniel Trolaro, MS, is the Assistant Executive Director for 800-GAMBLER and holds his Master of Science degree in Psychology from California Coast University. Trolaro speaks around the state and country about internet and mobile device gambling as well as emerging trends and addiction from various vantage points. Whether speaking on the underlying disease, prevention strategies, emerging trends, responsible gaming or recovery resources, Trolaro discusses the concept of addiction-switching, co-occurrence, and behaviors associated with many addictions.

Guiding Clients in Self-Awareness for Authentic Identity Management

Wednesday, May 22, 2019 @ 3:00-4:00pm ET (2CT/1MT/12PT)
Description: Self-assessment provides the gateway for understanding our various characteristics, skills, challenges, and goals. As one creates his or her assessment of self, he or she gains fundamental building blocks for constructing their brand, offering sustainable and uniquely authentic articulation of self. This strategy for learning and acknowledging ones’ true self offers exciting opportunities for establishing continuity across the various roles persons in recovery must navigate. This webinar will examine how counselors can assist persons in recovery in building an authentic brand statement. The simple outcome of the naming of one’s own brand can provide a sustainable guide in taking healthy ownership of one’s recovery program.

Presenter: Karyl Sabbath, PhD, LIDC, LAC

Karyl Sabbath, PhD, LIDC, LAC, Internationally Certified Clinical Supervisor, Family Leader (FLTI), taught for 21 years at Otterbein University and retired with emeritus status in 2010. She served as an outpatient and inpatient counselor for 7 years, served as a Trainer of Trainers for the Ohio Chemical Dependency Board, and trained students in organizational consulting throughout her tenure at Otterbein College. Her 1999 chapter in Communication in Recovery: Perspectives on Twelve-Step Groups examines communication styles of Adult Children of Alcoholics (ACoA).

April 30, 2019 TRANSFORMATION THROUGH SPIRITUAL TRUTH FROM SCRIPTURE AND THE TWELVE STEPS TODAY STEP 1

James 4:6 But he gives us more grace. That is why Scripture says: “God opposes the proud but shows favor to the humble.”

Step 1: We admitted we were powerless over ourselves and self medicating ways and that our lives had become unmanageable.
