Oct 18,2018 Through the Twelve Steps With Spiritual Support From Scripture

Second Corinthians Chapter 3 verses 14 through 16

But the people’s minds were hardened, and to this day whenever the old covenant is being read, the same veil covers their minds so they cannot understand the truth. And this veil can be removed only by believing in Christ. Yes, even today when they read Moses’ writings, their hearts are covered with that veil, and they do not understand. But whenever someone turns to the Lord, the veil is taken away.
(GODS BIG BOOK)

Veil- mask, scarf, kerchief, envelop, surround, swathe, enfold, cover, conceal, hide, screen, shield, cloak, blanket, shroud; obscure

STEP 2- Came to believe that a Power greater than ourselves could restore us to sanity. ( Worlds Big Book)

You will never live life to the fullest until you discover, admit, believe, and take off the mask so to speak. We all hide behind self made masks thinking people cant see the Who I really am. The same is true in our Spiritual lives and because we cant see the truth we become frustrated and hardened by the world and its disappointments. Fumbling around doing a million different things to find peace but all we find is stress and sorrow. There a million and one ways to deal with this Spiritual blindness ! Mine was trying to numb it with chemical substances ,the only problem was that only made my life even messier .I wish ,I could speak a word and your Spirit would awaken so your suffering would end ! It is up to you and God to get this and receive this truth. This Truth is spoken about in step 12 but you are going to have to go through hell on earth .We see the world with a distorted view because we are ruled by sinful desires created by our spiritual enemy and if he can keep you blind to Gods Spiritual truth he will ruin your life cause your premature physical death and ultimately win your soul . Turning to the Lord like the Big Book says is the only way the veil will be removed and you can take off that mask and live your God promised life that was predestined for you by your loving heavenly Father and His Soul Saving Son Jesus Christ who Died your death on the Cross because you broke the law He didn't !

Meth is On the Rise Again: What Parents Should Know
meth crystals
“When I took those off-white crushed shards up that blue, cut plastic straw—well, my whole world pretty much changed after that. There was a feeling like — my God, this is what I’ve been missing my entire life. It completed me. I felt whole for the first time.” These are the words of Nic Sheff describing his experience with methamphetamine in his autobiography, Tweak.

Known by street names like speed, ice, biker’s coffee, tweak or crystal, methamphetamine — or meth for short — is made in a home or lab. It comes in a white powder or pill form and is bitter-tasting. The form that Nic describes is crystal methamphetamine and looks like glass fragments or shiny, bluish-white rocks. It is a stimulant like caffeine and cocaine, although far more powerful.

Why is Meth is Experiencing a Resurgence?

In February 2018, The New York Times ran a story, “Meth, the Forgotten Killer, Is Back. And It’s Everywhere.” And it seems that it is. Government actions in 2006 restricted access to pseudoephedrine, a key ingredient used in making meth, resulting in a temporary decline in use. However, meth is on the rise again, largely smuggled in from Mexico. According to the DEA’s 2017 threat assessment, its purity has been steadily climbing and is now well above 90 percent. It’s also cheap, at $5 per hit.

Thank You
Thank you for helping us reach families in need!

Dear Friends,

We hope you're having a wonderful fall, enjoying time with family and friends, and hopefully the opportunity to practice a little self-care.

This year continues to be one of significant growth for us as we strive to serve even more parents and caregivers through our family services. Since our last Donor Impact Report, we have accomplished even more thanks to donors like you. I hope you enjoy this edition which highlights the resources you help us provide, including expansion of our Parent Coach Network and opportunities to connect with thought leaders in health care.

With limited funding available, the Partnership for Drug-Free Kids relies on the generous support of champions to ensure families receive the help they need to address their loved one’s substance use. Thank you for joining us.

Gratefully yours,

News from the Field: Providing One-on-One Support
This summer we worked hard to expand our Parent Coach program, hosting trainings across the country. In June, we trained 16 new coaches, partnering with Utah Support Advocates for Recovery Awareness (USARA) in Salt Lake City. Parent volunteers were trained through the Center for Motivation and Change’s (CMC:FFC) Invitation to Change Approach, an incorporation of Community Reinforcement and Family Training (CRAFT), Motivational Interviewing; and Acceptance and Commitment Therapy.

Our new Parent Coaches will now commit six months to providing one-on-one support to other parents by phone, joining more than 200 other coaches nationwide in listening to others’ struggles and offering profound advice.

On the importance of Parent Coaches, USARA stated, “…a substance use problem is often a very isolating disease. Many parents who have been through it with their own child expresses that what they would have wanted most at the time was to talk to someone who understood."

We will round out the year with three more trainings in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania; Newark, New Jersey; and Cincinnati, Ohio. If you would like to learn more about our Parent Coach program, contact Madison Moore at madison_moore@drugfree.org.

Thank you for helping us provide this critical resource for parents in need of support.
Empowering Families with Expert Information

Empowering Families with Expert Information
This August was a busy month on Facebook. We began by launching our first-ever “Parenting Skills Facebook Live: Support for Families Concerned with Substance Use.” This new series of Facebook Live events will highlight techniques from the Center for Motivation and Change: FFC’s Invitation to Change Approach, evidence-based approaches shown to help individuals move toward making meaningful life changes.

Our featured expert was Dr. Kenneth M. Carpenter, who discussed the topic: “One Answer Does Not Fit All: Understanding there are many paths to helping your child.” We addressed the challenges families face in identifying opioid misuse and the various obstacles parents encounter when seeking treatment. The presentation highlighted the resources and tools that empower families to engage loved ones in treatment and informed parents about the support and critical information they need to become effective advocates for their family.

Later in the month, our President Fred Muench had the privilege of moderating a Facebook Live with United States Surgeon General, Vice Admiral Jerome M. Adams, M.D., M.P.H., and Susan Knade, a Partnership Parent Coach whose daughter is in long-term recovery. On the eve of Overdose Awareness Day, they discussed the role families can play in solving the opioid epidemic, taking questions and speaking about evidence-based solutions.

Harrison Kashkin

Champion Corner: Partners for Hope
Partner for Hope Harrison Kashkin ran the inaugural Coney Island Half Marathon in July and generously raised money and awareness to help the parents and families the Partnership serves. Harrison ran in memory of his girlfriend’s sister, Danielle Rothstein, who passed away last winter at age 26.

Harrison set a $1,500 goal to help us bolster our customized, one-on-one tools and resources to help families like Danielle’s. With amazing support from his family, friends and coworkers, Harrison not only achieved his goal of $1,500, but he surpassed it, raising more than $8,500 for the Partnership. “It was an incredibly rewarding experience,” said Harrison of his effort.

We sincerely thank Harrison, the Rothstein family and their friends for helping us further our work and expand our free, science-based resources for families in need of support and guidance when facing a child’s addiction.
