😬 Undoing The Grin-and-Bear-It Culture

For so long, so many of us live in the "grin-and-bear-it" culture.

We put our own feelings and needs to the side and act like everything is okay. That only leads to our downfall. Living that way only works for so long.

I'm finding that there's a number of people on Sobriety Engine struggling with sobriety, life in general, or "just hanging-on."
If you're struggling, I'd be glad to pair you up with a friend, accountability, partner, get you involved on our platform, or just lend an ear. Your struggles are important and you deserve to be helped.

Feel free to send me a message.
Enjoy the rest of this week's wrap up!

Recovery Coaching

This week, we helped Paul navigate an internal struggle of wanting to be liked. Faced with indecision, Paul's past experiences have led him to trust people who take advantage of his kindness. Going back to childhood, Paul was able to identify core feelings and patterns that led him to this moment.

Weekly Check-In

Our weekly check-in consisted of defining your #1 goal for the week.
Did you reach your goal? If so, what steps did you take to achieve it? If you didn't reach your goal, what can you learn from your experience to better help you get there next time?
Answer these questions below, or add your goal, here.

Guided Meditation

So often, we spend much of our time taking in information and trying to organize our day-to-day lives. Moving from our thinking mind to our feeling body, this week's 10-minute mindfulness meditation helped us relax, create space, and begin to separate our thoughts from ourselves.
Be sure to check out the replay, here.

25 in 25 Volunteer Spotlight – David Weidman
David Weidman is fond of a quote by past SMART Recovery president Dr. Tom Horvath: “There are as many paths to recovery as there are people trying to recover.” For Weidman, a nontheist who wanted to conquer his OxyContin addiction on his own terms, the path to recovery led directly to SMART. “I read that […]

Persistence Pays Off
Persistence Pays Off
Provided by SMART Family & Friends Facilitator, Kerry Hammell In the fall of 2018, I started the SMART Recovery Family & Friends meeting in Campbell River on Vancouver Island, B.C., Canada. It quickly developed a regular following of 10-15 participants that often reported that the meetings were providing each of them with tremendous support and encouragement. Then came COVID-19 in March […]

About SMART Recovery

Founded in 1994, SMART Recovery uses science-based techniques that have proven to be effective in helping people recover from addiction problems involving any substance or behavior, including such things as alcohol, drugs, gambling, eating disorders, shopping, and internet use.

Each week, many thousands of people discuss recovery progress and challenges at more than 3,000 in-person meetings in 23 countries, 40+ online gatherings, and 24/7/365 internet message board forums.

Participants use SMART to assume responsibility for their own recovery and become empowered using its 4-Point Program®: building motivation; coping with urges; managing thoughts, feelings and behaviors; and living a balanced life.
