Brenda Emerick, BHT, CLC: Crafting the Perfect Aftercare Plan

Meet Brenda Emerick, Lead Case Manager at The River Source

Brenda Emerick, BHT, CLC, is a behavioral health technician who serves as Lead Case Manager at The River Source. In her role, she leverages more than a decade of experience with The River Source to help clients make a smooth transition between the levels of care we offer, making sure they’re well-positioned to continue using the tools they develop with us when treatment is complete.
Brenda recently spoke about her experience as a case manager in a full-continuum treatment facility, her conception of effective aftercare planning, and why this is so important to clients’ success in recovery down the road.

The Importance of Aftercare and Case Management

Aftercare is the practice of making sure clients in a substance abuse treatment program have the resources they need to live a stable and sober life after leaving inpatient care.

At The River Source, we see aftercare as more than just making sure clients have a stable home after rehab — Brenda and her team knows that truly effective, sustainable recovery takes a near-constant commitment to making sure clients are able to stick with constructive patterns of thinking and behaving after leaving our program.

No two patients are the same — and no aftercare plan should be “one size fits all”. Our approach to giving clients the best chance to enjoy life-long sobriety is something that Brenda and her whole team is extremely proud of.

Greetings!
I hope that your new year has been off to a good start. With each new year, there comes new opportunities and new ways to see the Lord work in our lives. Christina’s story is one of the many that we get to see firsthand here, and I hope you are encouraged by it as much as I am.
Nature vs. Nurture—February 2021 Newsletter
Christina was born addicted to drugs. Her mother used multiple substances and as a result, Christina was born prematurely and addicted to heroin. The first 10 years of Christina's life, she was surrounded by pain and suffering in a poor neighborhood. Over the years, her home life grew worse. Christina was underdeveloped socially, physically, and spiritually.

However, at the age of ten, she was adopted by a local Christian couple, and the path of her life began to change. Christina's story is one that tells of the Lord's faithful healing and redemption despite her childhood circumstances.
