PRO-ACT Virtual Village 9/30

Join us Wednesday night, 9/30 at 6:00 pm for the final
PRO-ACT Virtual Village conversation:

This Finale Celebration will highlight those who Make a Difference and work to ensure Recovery is possible for all.

The 2020 National Recovery Month theme is “Join the Voices for Recovery: Celebrating Connections” and we look forward to celebrating the roles of individuals and organizations in our community. Deputy Director Roland Lamb of DBHIDS and Bev Haberle, the former Executive Director of The Council, will reflect on the words Bill White has written to commemorate Recovery Month in this most extraordinary year.

Then, we will celebrate the men and women who have been selected for this year’s Make a Difference Awards. Join us to honor them, and to recognize YOU and everyone in this incredible community who helped ensure that although it was virtually, we have made this Recovery Month one to cherish and remember!

And we will post the video as soon as it concludes here:

OCTOBER IS
National Substance Abuse Prevention Month
This October marks the second annual National Substance Abuse Prevention Month – an observance to highlight the vital role of substance abuse prevention in both individual and community health and to remember those who have lost their lives to substance abuse.  The Office of National Drug Control Policy is highlighting National Substance Abuse Prevention Month and encourages prevention efforts this month and all year long to ensure the health of teens and young adults.
HOW DID RED RIBBON WEEK COME ABOUT?
IT ALL STARTED WITH ONE MAN.

On Thursday, February 7, 1985, at 2:00 pm, Special Agent Enrique Camarena left the American Consulate in Guadalajara to meet his wife, Mika, for lunch. Known to his friends as "Kiki," Special Agent Camarena had been in Mexico for more than four years on the trail of Mexican marijuana and cocaine drug traffickers. Kiki was due to be reassigned in three weeks because he had come dangerously close to exposing the top leaders of a multi-billion drug pipeline.
As Kiki walked to his truck, he was approached by five men who shoved him into a beige Volkswagen. One of the men threw a jacket over Kiki's head, and the driver sped away. Kiki never saw his wife or family again.
