One Mother's Story of COVID and Addiction

Center on Addiction
Partnership for Drug-Free Kids

Dear Joseph,
What do you do when your well-structured routine, one that has helped you establish boundaries and house rules to address your child’s substance use, comes to a screeching halt? My family had finally settled into a routine to help our family address our 19-year-old son’s substance use disorder, but all of that fell apart when COVID-19 hit our community. We were fearful for his safety and for the well-being of our family.
We knew our boundaries needed to change, but how? I had no idea where to start or how to alter these limits in light of the pandemic. We also had new worries to navigate, especially with my husband falling into the “vulnerable population” category for the virus.
I was at a loss and realized I needed help. Luckily, I knew I could turn to the Partnership, and I joined their online support community. Through these live, free online gatherings, I have received invaluable advice about how to adjust those pre-COVID boundaries and limits in favor of our family’s physical and emotional well-being. I also have peace of mind knowing that I am not alone.
Please help ensure that parents like me can continue to count on the Partnership’s free and vital resources, online support communities, and one-on-one parent coaching program. These are available to us at no cost while we navigate one of the most difficult challenges of our lives.
DONATE TODAY

The Partnership takes your hand, understands your needs, and provides a safe place to heal, connect and grow. Let’s all pay it forward, because with each connection we are all a bit stronger.

With gratitude,
Virginia Holleman Signature
