Did you know: It’s National Make-a-Will Month!

If we’ve learned anything in the past year and a half, it’s that life can change quickly. While House of Ruth Maryland’s mission to provide direct, emergency services to victims of partner violence never changed, to remain open throughout the pandemic – like everyone else – the way we do our work had to change.

We are fortunate that due to supporters like you, we were able to make changes – adding telehealth options for clients, allowing staff to work remotely and so much more.

How has your life changed? Did you move to a new town or city? Are you a new parent, grandparent, or pet-parent? Are you more grateful for the people around you?

As you take stock of everything in your life, I want to share that August is National Make-a-Will Month! You’ve been there for House of Ruth Maryland’s future, so we want to help you secure the future for the people you love the most. Whether you’ve never made a will at all or need to update yours, why not start now?

To help you get started, you can use FreeWill, a free, online resource that guides you through the process of creating a legally valid will in 20 minutes or less.

This August, take care of all the changes in your life and write or update your will today.

P.S. When you created your plans, did you include a gift to the House of Ruth Maryland in your will? If so, please fill out this form to let us know!

If you would like more information on how to make a planned gift to House of Ruth Maryland, please contact Andrew Primrose at aprimrose@hruth.org or call 443-569-0515.

Kim Bellas - Sober is the New Cool
Kim Bellas Sober is the New Cool
In 2013, Kim Bellas' 15 -year-old started having seizures. Like most teenagers, he enjoyed going to parties and socializing. A significant aspect of these parties was the consumption of alcohol, and her son was unable to drink due to his seizures.

As a mother, it was instinctive to make him happy by assuring him that alcohol wasn't necessary for him to enjoy himself. It IMMEDIATELY dawned on her how hypocritical she was being as she found herself frequently drinking wine.

She formed Sober is the New Cool - changing the view of sobriety.
