Saturday is #TakeBackDay: Watch Jacqueline's Story

Fighting the Opioid Epidemic on #TakeBackDay – Jacqueline’s Story
This is the story of Jacqueline. After losing her son, Adam, to a heroin overdose, Jacqueline dedicated herself to helping other families struggling with substance use by volunteering as a Parent Coach:

Nearly half of Americans have a friend or family member who has struggled with substance use or addiction. Many of us keep all kinds of unneeded medications in our unlocked medicine cabinets. But these highly addictive medications are at high risk of being misused by friends and family members.

Safely disposing of unneeded medications is a simple, concrete step that everyone can take to keep friends and loved ones safe. Twice a year, in April and October, Google partners with the DEA to promote National Prescription Drug Take Back Day and make it easier for everyone to find a convenient drug collection site near them.

#TakeBackDay is this Saturday, April 27th, from 10AM-2PM. We urge you to make a plan to take back your unused medications. You can find a nearby drop off site at g.co/rxtakeback.

If your loved one is struggling with substances, you can connect with our Helpline to get one-on-one support and help making an action plan.

Thank you for helping protect your family and community.

What is Opioid Withdrawal Syndrome (OWS)?
What is Opioid Withdrawal Syndrome (OWS)?
A guest blog provided by Mark Pirner, M.D., Ph.D. If you are in recovery, you’ve probably been through opioid withdrawal at least once and probably more. Some people compare opioid withdrawal to ‘the worst flu in your life’ but I’m not sure that accurately captures the agony, depression, hopelessness, pain and despair. Opioid Withdrawal Syndrome (OWS) […]

About SMART Recovery

Founded in 1994, SMART Recovery uses science-based techniques that have proven to be effective in helping people recover from addiction problems involving any substance or behavior, including such things as alcohol, drugs, gambling, over-eating, shopping and internet use.

Each week, many thousands of people discuss recovery progress and challenges at more than 3,000 in-person meetings each week in 23 countries, 25 online gatherings and 24/7/365 internet message board forums and chat rooms.

Participants use SMART to assume responsibility for their own recovery and become empowered using its 4-Point Program®: building motivation; coping with urges; managing thoughts, feelings and behaviors; and living a balanced life.
