"The platform that you choose to share matters less than how you feel while doing it. Finding your own voice and level of comfort is the ideal stage to share the beautiful story of your journey during National Recovery Month.” —Emily Guarnotta, who holds a doctorate degree in clinical psychology from the California School of Professional Psychology in San Diego and has a passion for working with clients struggling with substance abuse and mental health issues

Every September, the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration sponsors National Recovery Month to increase awareness and understanding of mental and substance use disorders and celebrate the people who recover. The 2016 theme, “Join the Voices for Recovery: Our Families, Our Stories, Our Recovery!” highlights the value of peer support by educating, mentoring and helping others. It invites
individuals in recovery and their support systems to be change agents in communities, and in civic and advocacy engagements. Promote Recovery Month by organizing an event, writing an op-ed or online article, or soliciting and gathering proclamations from state, territory, city or county entities in support of
Recovery Month.

How Do I Balance All That I Want?

This Labor Day week, it’s fair to consider how we can love our work without sacrificing the rest of our life. Most of us are working and caring for family members and studying something and seeking some kind of spiritual life and having a good recovery life and trying to be an asset to the greater community as well. The tension arises when we try to balance it by holding those parts separate from each other.
Renew provides relevant and engaging information and resources to help individuals recovering from drug and alcohol addiction and their loved ones create and embrace a healthy lifestyle.

A New Identity

When I was eight, my mom packed me and my sisters into the car and told us we were going to stay with relatives.  She left my dad behind.

My family had seemed normal and pleasant from the outside, but that was just a facade.  My mom and dad argued all the time, and there isn't a single photograph from my childhood that doesn't have an alcoholic beverage in it somewhere.

Healing in the Context of Community

Is God calling you to minister
to broken people struggling with
addiction (chemical or sexual),
eating disorders, trauma,
or any other life-controlling behaviors?

Join us for our Healing in the Context of Community (HCC) course October 15-21. You will learn how to serve those hurting in your community as well as experience how God is freeing men and women from those very bonds here on The Hill.
During your time in HCC, you will attend training courses designed for people like you who have a desire to love and serve hurting and broken men and women.
     The classes will cover:
  • community and relationships
  • inner healing
  • addictions and recovery
  • family dynamics
  • medications and mental health
You will also have the opportunity to join those who are currently seeking God's restoration at His Mansion during communal meals and worship throughout the week.

“Any little thing you can do counts. This awareness thing grows itself. When you first start working the program, you're thinking about the steps and applying it. Over the years, it starts living you. I felt very similarly about Buddhism. All we have to do is incline our mind in that direction, and it grows itself.” — Thérèse Jacobs-Stewart, founder of the Mind Roads Meditation Center and leader of the Twelve Steps and Mindfulness meeting

Tomorrow is Ask a Stupid Question Day, a holiday created by teachers in the 1980s to encourage students to ask more questions in the classroom. At Renew, we know that there might be some tough questions that you're grappling with on your recovery journey. We've all been there before, and there are no stupid questions. So we've put together this guide to some of those questions you might be asking yourself. Any questions?

That Sober Mom

Being a young, sober woman raising two daughters has posed many unique challenges over the years. As my children grow up, I am put in different circles with different people. And it turns out book clubs and cookie swaps are not always what they seem.
