Surgeon General Issued Report on Smoking Cessation

Last week, the Office of the Surgeon General released the first report on smoking cessation in 30 years.

Although smoking among U.S. adults has reduced by 67% since 1965, it still remains the leading preventable cause of death and disease in the U.S. Approximately 34 million adults currently smoke cigarettes and more than two-thirds of these individuals report attempts to quit.

Smoking Cessation: A Report of the Surgeon General outlines effective tobacco control strategies and smoking cessation tools for state and local government agencies, healthcare professionals, and the general public.

Opioid-Impacted Family Support Program Funding Opportunity

The Health Resources & Services Administration’s Bureau of Health Workforce has announced a new funding opportunity for the Opioid-Impacted Family Support Program (OIFSP).

This opportunity aims to increase the number of peer support specialists and other behavioral health-related paraprofessionals who work on interprofessional teams to provide services to children whose parents are impacted by substance use disorders and their family members who are in guardianship roles.

The application deadline is April 13, 2020.

NAADAC is looking for a new Director of Membership & Affiliates, a new Operations Manager, a new NCC AP Testing/Certification Coordinator, and a new Communications Coordinator.

The Director of Membership & Affiliates is a full-time position that reports to the Executive Director and requires 15-20% travel. This position provides primary leadership and management for all aspects of membership and affiliate growth and engagement.

The Operations Manager is a full-time position that reports to the Deputy Director. Responsibilities include assisting the Deputy Director in managing the main office operations, association-wide information technology, event, vendor, and travel coordination for NAADAC's events and trainings, and higher-level administrative tasks as needed.

The NCC AP Testing/Certification Coordinator is a full-time position that will provide day-to-day support to NCC AP’s Testing Program Manager and Certification Senior Manager. He/She will also be expected to gain basic knowledge of the various programs and services NAADAC provides.

The Communications Coordinator is a full-time position that will work directly with the Director of Communications and Communications Specialist to help NAADAC communicate its mission through the NAADAC website, email marketing, and other communication/ marketing vehicles.

Addiction Medicine Fellowship (AMF) Program Funding Opportunity

The Health Resources and Services Administration is now accepting applications for the fiscal year 2020 Addiction Medicine Fellowship (AMF) Program.

The AMF Program will expand the number of fellows at accredited Addiction Medicine Fellowship and Addiction Psychiatric Fellowship programs to work in underserved, community-based settings that integrate behavioral and primary care services.

HRSA plans to fund an estimated 25 eligible grantees up to $800,000 annually over a five-year period of performance to foster robust community-based clinical training of addiction medicine or addiction psychiatry physicians to provide opioid and other substance use prevention, treatment, and recovery services.

The application deadline is February 25, 2020.
