Opioid Crisis Response Act of 2018 Passed the U.S. Senate

The Opioid Crisis Response Act of 2018 resulted from more than 70 proposals recommended to the Senate by members of five different committees. The House passed its version of the bill in June. Help Spread the Message of Hope This Recovery Month
FacebookLinkedInTwitter
Recovery Month is a national observance held every September to educate Americans that substance use treatment and mental health services can enable those with a mental and/or substance use disorder to live a healthy and rewarding life.  You can use this month of observance to spread advocacy, awareness, and hope to those affected by substance abuse and working through recovery.

Help spread the message of hope in honor of National Recovery Month! View, listen to, and share these PSA’s produced by SAMHSA in honor of Recovery Month:
  • Voices for Recovery delivers real words of encouragement from individuals in recovery, to those seeking help.
  • r is for Recovery helps build and support a community of hope—portraying recovery as a point of pride.
Please share these resources when promoting your Recovery Month Event or when promoting the message of hope in recovery!

TELL CONGRESS: Include Substance Use Screening in Final Opioid Bill

Earlier this week the Senate passed legislation to address the opioid crisis. Leaders from the Senate and House are meeting now to work out the differences between the Senate bill and the House version. While both bills address numerous issues, they do little to address prevention especially for middle and high school students.
We know that addiction can be prevented with early screening and intervention and we hope that you will join with us to urge Congressional leaders to add guidelines and best practices for screening for substance use to the final bill language. The National Institutes of Health has already developed best practices and guidelines on this type of screening and the American Academy of Pediatrics as well as other groups have published evidence-based materials on screening and brief interventions. By including this language, we will be encouraging more health professionals to screen adolescents for substance use disorders and taking an important step to stem the human and economic toll of addiction. We hope that Congressional leaders will be willing to add it to the final bill.
Please contact your representatives to make your voice heard and advocate for substance use screening:
