“When he started using and doing the things that addicts do—lying and cheating and stealing and all these horrific things that I couldn’t understand—I was self-centered in a very common way. You know, 'How could Nic do this to me? How could he do this to Karen?' I knew he loved us. It didn’t make any sense. But when I read Tweak, I realized he wasn’t doing it to us; he was doing it to himself. [His actions] were a reaction of how much pain he was in.” —Author David Sheff on reclaiming his son from the depths of meth addiction—and his advice for parents

Recovery Specialists provide a foundation for recovery self-efficacy to be created through improving the relapse response (hijacking effect) within the brain through cognitive apprenticeship, modeling, mentoring, ecological momentary intervention, and inspiring, educating and repeated success. Combining this with cutting edge family theory and a focus on healing and recovery of not only the individual but the family as whole is the basis of the IRI training.

"This training has not only reinforced what I already know as a working Recovery Specialist, it has given me new tools and confidence in my ability to implement them!"   - Dufflin, Recovery Specialist

"The IRI Certified Recovery Specialist, Level 1 Training recently given in Long Beach, California was informative, insightful, creatively delivered, thought provoking and altogether enjoyable. As a viable component of addiction treatment the curriculum focuses on, where have come from historically, challenges our current knowledge and methodologies but, most importantly the direction we are going towards legitimacy and valorization. As a seasoned professional in the field of 15 years, we are long overdue for an ethical industry standard of this caliber to be set and available to those of us with vast experience or newly entering the field. Empowering us to approach this profession with confidence in a continuum of care that would be an asset to any client and or clinical team at any level of treatment. The balance of history, theory, cooperation, definition, practicality, legalities, ethical behaviors and self regulation within this curriculum was seamlessly melded together through our instructors vast experiential knowledge. After completing the Level 1 Training, it is my opinion that anyone interested in, working as, working with or simply understanding the valuable resource of a Recovery Specialist can benefit from the training offered by IRI. With that, a fond thank you for the time, energy and forward thinking required to compile such an educational body of work. Truly I am looking forward to enrolling in the Advanced Levels and Specialties education to come."

MAY 29 CHP 17 V 10 TWELVE STEPPING WITH STRENGTH FROM THE PSALMS

They close up their callous hearts ,and their mouths speak with arrogance .

STEP 6- Were entirely ready to have God remove all these defects of character.

Callous- showing or having an insensitive and cruel disregard for others

Arrogant- exaggerating or disposed to exaggerate one's own worth or importance often by an overbearing manner.

Who do you think you are ! Ever hear that one yelled at you before ? If family and friends are in constant argument with you and you feel like your not getting anywhere in life its time for you to take a long hard look at yourself in the mirror and truly step 6 your attitude. Addiction has a funny way of hiding our defects which only makes it more difficult when we find ourselves sober. Addiction produces life in a altered sense of reality and living in that altered reality produces or enforces some very negative behaviors. The twelve steps , prayer and meditation are vital in living a peaceful joy filled life. Thats why step one and two are the most important they will bring you out of your altered sense of reality and bring life into perspective. Life is tough and it is not designed for you to go it alone. Your Creator (GOD) did not put you here to do whatever you want and walk , all everyone who loves you. There is a purpose and a meaning to your life but in order to discover it you have to realize your the reason its a mess and if your not willing to change it then you will remain stuck right where you are. Step 6 teaches us defects will be removed ,it doesn't say it will help us deal or cope with these defects .Sometimes these defects become our crutches and defenses so when God removes the defects our calloused hearts will become soft and arrogance will become humility and gratitude.

2 Peter 3:9 The Lord is not slow to fulfill his promise as some count slowness, but is patient toward you, not wishing that any should perish, but that all should reach repentance.
