'You were a safety net when I felt like I was drowning. You had resources to suggest and knew just what to say. THANK YOU FOR BEING THERE.' -Anonymous Helpline Caller
Dear Joseph,

Families struggling with a child’s substance use need you, and you answered the call! Together, we raised over $15,000 on Giving Tuesday!

Your generosity ensures we can continue to expand our Parent Coach Program, create innovative and life-changing resources, like our Help & Hope by Text, and extend our Parent Helpline hours so families can get the personalized support they need, when they need it most.

Great news, if you haven’t made your gift yet, there is still time to join the hundreds of parents, family members and champions who are helping us save lives! Our Giving Tuesday match has been extended until midnight tonight. That means, your donation, in any amount, will provide families in need with the support, compassion and guidance they are seeking.

We are truly grateful for your commitment to empowering families and being a light for those who need us most.

STEP 5

Tim 2v16 All Scripture is inspired by God and is useful to teach us what is true and to make us realize what is wrong in our lives. It corrects us when we are wrong and teaches us to do what is right.

Today is #GivingTuesday! Like many small nonprofits, Metro Drug Coalition's success is due largely to the generosity of its donors, donors like you! We hope that you will consider making a donation to MDC and partner with us in fighting the substance misuse epidemic in our community.

For Giving Tuesday, MDC is doing a #ReverseTheStatistic Campaign in hopes to educate individuals on the impact substance misuse is having on our community. MDC will be sharing statistics and, in turn, asking for that same number in a donation amount towards drug prevention efforts to help reverse the statistic. See examples below

Check out MDC's FacebookInstagram and Twitter for more #ReverseTheStatistic graphics! Make sure to share!

We ensure that every donation will go directly to the service and programs MDC implements in our community. Click below to donate and make your tax-deductible #GivingTuesday gift today.

Everyone is affected by addiction in some way,

Overlapping Issues: Domestic & Sexual Violence, Mental Health, Trauma & Substance Use

Wednesday, December 12, 2018 @ 3-4:30pm ET (2CT/1MT/12PT)
Description: Many persons with substance use disorders have multiple vulnerabilities. Professionals must know the correlations, implications, and ramifications of these intersections. Clients have often experienced traumas, including domestic violence or sexual assault. Survivors of these crimes also experience trauma reactions such as depression, anxiety, and PTSD. Some have pre-existing conditions, while others develop them as a result of the traumas. Many have turned to addictive substances to cope with ongoing abuse or traumatic memories of prior abuses. Best practices require competency to address substance use disorders and these vulnerabilities. This session will discuss overlapping concerns and hope to address them in partnership with victims and survivors of domestic violence and sexual assault.

Presenter: Julie Owens, Certified Domestic Violence Counselor

Julie Owens, Certified Domestic Violence Counselor, has worked extensively with persons with multiple vulnerabilities, including pregnant and mothering women with substance abuse disorders, psychiatric patients, persons with autism and trauma survivors. Since 1990 she has worked solely in domestic violence, sexual assault and human trafficking. At the National Center for PTSD, Owens co-developed and provided the first trauma therapy for formerly battered women. She later spent three years serving victims with substance use and psychiatric disorders, creating a model response. Owens trains and consults nationally and internationally and serves as an expert witness. Her clients include the U.S. Department of State, the DOJ Office for Victims of Crime, the National Human Trafficking Training & Technical Assistance Center and Bank of America.
