TAKE ACTION
Trump SOTU Speech
President Donald Trump delivered the 2018 State of the Union address to the nation last night and offered Congress a detailed plan representing reforms that support his Administration’s response to the country’s crisis of opioid and drug addiction.

With 174 people dying every day to drug overdoses, we need a comprehensive response to the opioid crisis. We are grateful that President Trump used this important platform to bring attention to this issue, however, we continue to need additional resources to provide hope and help to families.

The Powerful Impact of Family Therapy on Addiction

by Stephen R. Honaker, LMHC, Family Therapist, Origins Behavioral HealthCare
Family Therapy Origins
When addressing substance use, it's often helpful to look at the family system as it can have a significant impact on how a teen or young adult succeeds in treatment. Family system simply refers to the roles people play in their families and the patterns of interaction with each other.

A “system” is defined as a collection of inter-related and/or inter-dependent parts that comprise a more complex whole.

For example, the human body is comprised of major organ systems such as the respiratory, digestive and immune systems, all which work together to keep the body functioning. Each system depends, directly or indirectly, on all the others to maintain overall health.

The same is true of the family system.

Measurement-Based Care
Tuesday, March 6, 8:30-10:00 a.m.

David Mee-Lee, MD; Scott Williams, PsyD; Michael Johnson, MA, CAP
Supported by Gloo, The Joint Commission & CARF International

There has been much emphasis on the use of evidence-based practice. But with the rise of value-based payment and funding for outcomes - not just service delivery and population health - there is a need to move beyond evidence-based practice toward “practice-based evidence” and “measurement-based practice.”

This panel will review the current pressures in healthcare reform that fuel changes in how to deliver, fund, and measure the effectiveness of services in behavioral health. It will highlight what accreditation organizations (Joint Commission and CARF) are doing to increase the quality of the care, treatment, and services provided by their accredited organizations and assist attendees in what next steps to take to use data to drive outcomes and quality.
